We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident

America declared her independence beginning with, “We hold these truths to be self-evident…” Basically, we hold these truths to be obvious. The truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ is obvious, too. It’s why the enemy has to blind eyes spiritually.  (2 Corinthians 4:4)  When the Holy Spirit opens eyes to see, we gain independence from Satan’s world system through salvation in Jesus Christ.

Just as America declared her independence from Great Britain, we sure don’t want to give our enemy opportunity to have power over us again. So we must declare God’s word to be true. 1 John 1:1–4 speaks to the joyful self-evidence of the gospel of Christ.  1 John 1:5 goes on to proclaim, “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”

We have been translated from a kingdom of darkness into glorious light. I’m thankful that the U.S. founding fathers didn’t say, “…self-evident-ish.” 1 John 1:6 says, “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” That just makes sense. When we waiver regarding the truth of God’s Word, we will not find Him in fellowship with that. Deception is adding “-ish” to the rock solid truth of the Gospel, and it is simply unbelief.

“But if we walk in the light,

as he is in the light,

we have fellowship with one another,

and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

1 John 1:7

Let’s hold His truth as self-evident, so we remain in freedom. Lord, revive our land!
