It’s All Going To Matter

A character in a sitcom used a phrase in an episode, “Serenity now!” to battle anxiety. By the end of the show he’d driven himself mad. We don’t need fluff, we need His truth that provides comfort and peace!

A simple phrase that helped me in a hard season and still does is,

“It’s all going to matter.”

We need to know that there is purpose in what God allows in our lives, even as each hard or harsh thing comes and makes us feel like sinking. We must remind ourselves that this is all going to matter; there’s some reason this needs to happen or needs to unfold this way. It’s part of the plan, otherwise God would not allow it.

God is fruitful, not futile. He’s kind, not cruel. So much of what is going on in the world is not of Him. But whatever He allows in the life of one of His children is going to matter.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11a

The One who knows the beauty of the final page, walks through the story to grieve with us, to comfort us, and to be with us. We may not like the pages of our story right now, but every bit of it will matter, because by God’s grace we’ve submitted to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

My friend Muriel Cash recently said,

“Anxiety is the perversion of anticipation.”

As another hard season has hit, I’m aiming to face it with more of a “What does my good God have planned?” anticipation, rather than sink into anxiety. He always provides what we need in the battle of the mind.

“I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,

and I am saved from my enemies.”

Psalm 18:3
