The Finisher
Years ago, I was having one of those days when getting through the act of grocery shopping would be a win. I was thinking about how I would not have written my life story the way it was unfolding when Hebrew 12:2a (NKJV) popped in my mind,
“…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”
In that moment I can’t tell you what a relief it was to remember that God is not only writing my story, but that this Author is also the Finisher. He has not brought us this far into our stories to fail us now. Philippians 1:6 says,
“And I am sure of this,
that he who began a good work in you
will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
Don’t just hang in there. Hang onto Him and His every promise to help you finish your race. We may not see it fully this side of eternity, but after this vapor of a temporary life, we’ll be with Him, rejoicing in our eternal home with the One who saved us and caused our lives to matter for His Kingdom.
This Author and Finisher is like no other. Hebrews 5:9 (NKJV) speaks of Jesus,
“And having been perfected,
He became the author of eternal salvation
to all who obey Him…”
Obedience to His plan – trusting Christ to pay the price for our sins – is the only way to gain eternal life. Hebrews 2:10 says,
“For it was fitting that he,
for whom and by whom all things exist,
in bringing many sons to glory,
should make the founder of their salvation
perfect through suffering.”
He’ll use every bit of our sufferings, too. Jesus does nothing halfway. Our Author and Finisher is a God of completion.
