Warm Hearts

I remember years ago on a very cold morning, the little pond next to our house had frozen over. Yet in the water across the street, there was a little fountain along with ducks swimming to provide movement, so it did not freeze over.

The scene provides a spiritual analogy as we consider our own hearts. If we allow the Lord to stir our hearts to enjoy Him, we desire to learn more about Him; rejoice in the wonder of Him; desire to obey Him as we participate in the advancement of His Kingdom. Our hearts are warmed in His love. But when we cease to put effort into our relationship with Christ, our hearts can begin to harden. Our love, passion, and desire for Him can grow cold. In John 7:38, Jesus said,

“Whoever believes in me,

as the Scripture has said,

‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

So let’s ask the Fountain of Living Water to keep us ever vibrant in the warmth of His love, and the wonder of His will. Let’s not just swim in circles of pointless busy-ness, but press forward with all eyes on Him.

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.

But one thing I do:

forgetting what lies behind and straining forward

to what lies ahead,

I press on toward the goal for the prize

of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14

Our walk with Him is meant to be continual, vigorous, and growing; not stagnant. Let’s be intentional through Bible reading, fellowship, prayer, hearing and obeying Him as He initiates and we respond.

“Do not be slothful in zeal,

be fervent in spirit,

serve the Lord.”

Romans 12:11
