The Ultimate Government

This is not a political post, but think about how important government is in regard to travel. Is it safe there? God ordained human government to keep peace and provide justice. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says to pray for our leaders, in order to lead peaceful and quiet lives, godly and dignified in every way. As Christians we should be praying for our leaders, whether we voted for them or not.

It’s unsettling to travel to places where governments are unstable or corrupt. Some beautiful locations on the globe are ravaged, not safe, or difficult to access simply because of the political climate. But if those same locations were ruled by excellent governments, they would make for great and peaceful vacation spots. And obviously this is not just about vacations. Bad governance makes life horrible for the citizens.

When we come to Christ, we become citizens of heaven. Isaiah lets us know that the government will be on Christ’s shoulders. What a wonderful place to live! Isaiah 9:6-7a says,

“For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and of peace

there will be no end…”

I can’t wait! With the government on the shoulders of Christ, there will not be a single place that is not enjoyable, safe, and wonderful. It will all be paradise! Lord, we honor You for that. Thank You for what You have planned for us in our eternal home. Thank you for reigning! Help us to live these temporary lives for Your glory, so that others see who You really are.
