Beholding The King
Inhale the glory of this passage as you picture it in your mind:
“In the year that King Uzziah died
I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne,
high and lifted up;
and the train of his robe filled the temple.
Above him stood the seraphim.
Each had six wings:
with two he covered his face,
and with two he covered his feet,
and with two he flew.
And one called to another and said:
‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!’
And the foundations of the thresholds shook
at the voice of him who called,
and the house was filled with smoke.”
Isaiah 6:1-4
If we are not viewing our King like this, we may want to consider what we’re believing. We must know that He is on the throne; high and lifted up; always exalted with praise. But what about the train of His robe filling the temple? I suddenly have a picture of a bridal gown with a train that is out of control. In reality this proclamation is stunning. The Hebrew word is shuwl and can mean a bottom edge or hem. In Sitting At The Feet of Rabbi Jesus by Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg we learn that in ancient times the hem of a garment symbolized the owner’s identity and authority.
HIS hem. Filled. The Temple.
Lord, may Your Temple made up of believers today be filled with Your identity, authority, glory, and might. Help Your true church to be a declaration of who You are. When the whole earth is filled with nothing but your glory, it will be an unspeakably joyful time indeed!
