The Purity of His Majesty
"For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords,
the great, the mighty, and the awesome God,
who is not partial and takes no bribe.”
Deuteronomy 10:17
As we look at Deuteronomy 10:17, imagine being pulled over by law enforcement knowing a bribe will be expected to be paid; to extort money and send you on your way. Or showing up in court knowing the judge is partial, has an agenda, is waiting for a bribe. That is the reality of some cultures. If it is not in yours be grateful! When the purity of majesty wanes, it’s not a good place. Woe to judges and those in authority who are not pure in their dealings. Proverbs 29:2 nails it on the head,
"When the righteous increase, the people rejoice,
but when the wicked rule, the people groan.”
As we’ve seen, majesty can mean authority and sovereign power. So true majesty that brings joy to those under it has to be pure. Like pure, clean water we desperately need authority to be free of anything that could harm. So whether you live in a nation plagued with partiality and bribery or not, rejoice today that in Christ you are ruled by the One who shows none of that! And He will continue that pure majesty for all eternity.
“Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.”
Psalm 96:6
Lord, thank You for the pure wonder of the beauty of holiness!
