The Power Of If

When God said, “…let us reason together,”  reason is the Hebrew yâkach meaning to be right. God is not saying, let’s exchange ideas and come up with a solution. He’s saying let’s be right together. He is already right, and invites us to know the right way, too. Isaiah 1:19-20 goes on to say,

“If you are willing and obedient,

you shall eat the good of the land;

but if you refuse and rebel,

you shall be eaten by the sword;

for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

When the Lord speaks, we want to hang on every word. This passage is rich, so we’ll spend a few days here. First, we see two choices:

1) If Israel consented and obeyed, they would find themselves eating the best of the land.

2) If they refused and rebelled, they would be devoured.

“If” can be a powerful word. I pray we see the warning here. There is no middle ground. There are two choices. God’s way, or any other way. An analogy would be going the right way on a one way street, versus the wrong way. One goes well, the other does not.

Many are saying that any belief is fine, and all ways lead to heaven. But God makes it clear that there is only one way, and it is Jesus. We can consent and come to Him through Christ, or we can refuse and miss out on that most glorious gift of eternal life. Only trusting in the application of the blood of Christ can make us white as snow, and protect us from God’s wrath.

‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
