Thankful For Our Vinedresser
I was pinching old blooms from a flowering plant and accidentally took off a new bud. I thought of how John 15 says that God is the Vinedresser, or Gardener, and it made me thankful. He never makes a mistake while pruning.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away,
and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes,
that it may bear more fruit.
John 15:1-2
Our Father is never pinching off anything that has benefit and is necessary in our lives. He removes what could bring spiritual harm or disease; those things that could hinder our work for Him. And He is never failing to prune those things that have no use or benefit. Pruning may feel like losing or less than, but it is always to make way for abundance. This is abundance to be enjoyed; used in our Father’s business for the saving of souls and the building up of others.
A testimony about Jesus from Mark 7:37 says, “He has done all things well.” That includes what He is doing in our lives today. Ecclesiastes 3:11a reminds us that God has made everything beautiful in its time. That includes us and our service to Him. The dictionary says a vinedresser is someone who prunes, trains, and cultivates vines. Do it Lord. And keep our hands off. What an honor to have You, the Creator and God of wonder and majesty loving, training, and cultivating us for our good and Your glory. Pruning…for strength and beauty every time.
