Don’t Forget Who Got You There
Our spiritual analogy today comes from one of my childhood TV shows. If you’re old enough, you may remember an episode of the Brady Bunch where Marcia befriends an awkward, unattractive teen girl. Marcia sees the potential and through a little attention to hair, makeup, clothes, and social skills, the ugly duckling becomes the beautiful swan. But the beautiful swan became arrogant and forgot who got her there, treating Marcia in a very unkind way!
Before salvation in Christ, sin made us spiritually unattractive; we were lost, hopeless, wandering and clueless to our purpose and potential to serve our loving Creator. But when He opened our eyes to see that we were sinners in need of a Savior, we were cleansed and given His beauty, robes of righteousness, and access to His throne. Sin had marred us, but He has made us beautiful, productive vessels of His light through Christ.
I love to be reminded of His Words to Israel as He prepared them to move into the Promised Land in Deuteronomy 6:10-12,
“And when the LORD your God brings you into the land
that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—
with great and good cities that you did not build,
and houses full of all good things that you did not fill,
and cisterns that you did not dig,
and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—
and when you eat and are full,
then take care lest you forget the LORD,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of slavery.”
We do not want to forget who got us here, and made us beautiful in Christ! Lord, thank you for everything.
