Surrender To His Majesty

When we surrender to the majesty of Christ, we are sanctified, set apart, no longer to be used in an ordinary way. If you remember the TV series “24,” our spiritual analogies will be coming from there.

First, the show is called 24 because the season takes place over a 24 hour period. That’s a fact often lost on me while I’m watching, because it’s a lifetime worth of adventure, an hour at a time. It’s a reminder of how one step at a time can keep us from being overwhelmed by the whole of a mission. Jesus said in Matthew 6:34,

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow,

for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.

Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

I think the show’s main character, Jack Bauer, would say amen to that. It keeps us more joyful, focused, and productive in our journey.

Second, Jack’s life as he once knew it is over. He now lives as one willing to die to protect the interests and freedoms of his country. It makes me think of the apostle Paul and others who live Kingdom-of-God-focused, instead of self-focused. If we could get a hold of that, we would live in the joy of knowing our lives have purpose in the spiritual freedom-fighting cause of Christ, where souls are released from the bondage of sin and death. Matthew 6:33 says,

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,

and all these things will be added to you.”

Jack would say, “Whatever you need Mr. President.” We should say, “Whatever You need Your Majesty, My King.”

Lord, I pray we will surrender to Your wondrous, wise majesty that we might lay down our own agendas to truly know Yours.
