Signaling An Arrival
Years ago, sitting President George W. Bush spoke at my girls’ high school. There were signs that he was coming: testing of the emergency broadcast system, Secret Service securing the campus, and Air Force One flying low over our heads. When He arrived, we met outside the school to welcome the motorcade.
Just as signs pointed to the coming of the President, so we are to watch for a greater arrival – the coming of the great King, Jesus Christ. At His first appearing, there were signs signaling His arrival including: being born of a virgin in Bethlehem; lowly and riding on a donkey; being the sacrifice for our sins on the cross.
Now signs are signaling His next arrival. In Matthew 24:6 He said,
“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars.
See that you are not alarmed,
for this must take place, but the end is not yet.”
Matthew 24:6
Wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes are things that have been seen almost since time began. In Matthew 24:12 He said,
“And because lawlessness will be increased,
the love of many will grow cold.”
That seems to be what we’re seeing now. The world hates God’s ways. The deception and delusion creeping in make the average person feel like they’re taking crazy pills. He told us ahead of time so we wouldn’t be distressed, and prepares us in His Word for how to live. Luke 21:28 says,
“Now when these things begin to take place,
straighten up and raise your heads,
because your redemption is drawing near.”
He’s coming on that day to be glorified in and marveled at among those who believe. (2 Thessalonians 1:10) Through the cross, may we be among those cheering His appearing!
