Rich in Mercy
I’m not sure there’s a sweeter feeling than needing mercy and then receiving it. Our God not only lavishes mercy on us through Christ, but grants us the privilege of bestowing it on others. We are granted the opportunity, in His power, to walk around acting like our Father! His mercy flows from His love. Genuine mercy from us will come no other way. When we need to show someone mercy, it helps to ask God to fill us with His love for them. Mercy may mean wise boundaries, not reconciling apart form repentance, etc., but it should be done in His wisdom from love.
Meditate on the wonder of Ephesians 2:4-7.
“But God, being rich in mercy,
because of the great love with which he loved us,
even when we were dead in our trespasses,
made us alive together with Christ—
by grace you have been saved—
and raised us up with him
and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace
in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
That is a lot of magnificence to chew on. Rich in mercy. His great love – even when we were in sin. He made us alive. Together with Christ. Raised us up together. Made us sit together where? In heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Why? That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ.
Lord, thank You for Your kindness toward us. Help us to fully consume this truth, that it may abound in much fruit in our lives to Your glory and the blessing of others.
