Resolute
We may have already disappointed ourselves in those New Year’s resolutions we thought we nailed down. To be resolute is to be purposeful, unwavering, adhering to our own goals and purposes rather than those of others. But what if the resolutions were not just my own goals and purposes? What if they were those of my Creator who knows the plans He has for me, and provides the wisdom and power to accomplish them? What if my resolution is to lay down my life and pick up His agenda?
In Matthew 20, blind men cried out to Jesus for mercy, but people made noise telling them to be quiet. As we seek to hear and serve God, Satan will seek to turn up the volume of the world’s message. Be resolute in refusing to give it audience as you press in toward the One who cannot be silenced. Look at this quote from Ed MCcully who was killed while spreading the Gospel,
“I have one desire now – to live a life of reckless abandon for the Lord,
putting all my energy and strength into it.”
Being resolute in obeying God is not always fun, but always worth it. Jesus was resolute in going to Jerusalem as He proceeded to be our sacrifice. So as we continue in this New Year, let’s be resolute to submit to God; to know Him better through His Word; to yield to the adventure He planned for our lives before time began; to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh; to have quiet hearts to hear Him in a loud and busy world.
“Therefore, my beloved brothers,
be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:58
