Remain Receptive
The heat and dry spells of summer provide great spiritual analogies. If the soil goes without water too long, it starts to crack and harden. It can actually repel water and seeds. What a picture of what can happen to our hearts, if we don’t remain in the Living Water of Christ.
By spending time with the Lord in prayer and His Word, by walking humbly with Him throughout our day, the soil of our heart remains soft. Then we are able to receive those seeds of truth He teaches us. They can take root to grow and produce fruit that will benefit not just us, but others, and bring glory to God.
If we realize our hearts have been too long without water, let’s ask Him to revive us. Let’s not allow the enemy or our own flesh to hinder us from remaining spiritually watered. In this vapor of a life, we must not grow weary. Be encouraged that one day cracked and dry will not even be an option.
“They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore;
the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat;
for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne
will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Revelation 7:16–17
How amazing that even in this world that is not our home, through Christ, we can remain well-watered in a parched and dry land. In the safe fences of His commands, loving Him most, we are refreshed in order to be a refreshment.
“You visit the earth and water it;
you greatly enrich it;
the river of God is full of water;
you provide their grain,
for so you have prepared it.”
Psalm 65:9
