Nothing Missing

I was emailing someone who had put much prayer and effort into an event where I had shared a message. Thankfully, I reread my email before hitting send, because right there in front of me, where I had intended to say, “It was wonderful,” I had written “I was wonderful.”  Can you imagine?

My thoughts went to what Jesus said in Matthew 5:17-18,

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets;

I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,

not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.”

We follow the One who never leaves out a “t” or an iota or a dot or anything else. More and more I find myself thankful for His holiness. The One who has our good and His glory in mind never makes a mistake. We do. And He is able to forgive and restore us when we miss the mark and repent.  He is wonderful.

I’m glad Jesus came to fulfill God’s perfect and amazing Law, not destroy it. It will never be a good idea, for example, to steal, or lie, or worship anything other than the only God who created all things. The world does try to leave iotas and dots out of God’s Word, so they can twist it into what works for their desires. But our God loves us too much to put up with that. The Law teaches us the right way to go. It reminds us that we fall short without Him. It reveals our need for a Savior who fulfills the beauty of holiness.
