Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus

Have you ever continued to throw time or money at something that ended up being a huge waste? It’s the worst. But it does present a spiritual analogy of our attempts to save ourselves.

In Daniel 5:27, the Lord through Daniel told the the Babylonian king, Belshazzar, that he had been weighed in the balances, and found wanting. Isn’t that the truth. Not a single one of us have lived a life worthy of the high calling of God, worthy to bear His name, worthy to come into His holy presence.

I had a picture in my mind’s eye one day of a balancing scale. One side was higher and lacking and, I knew, symbolic of my life. In the visual I saw gold coins being dropped in to make it balance and the coins turned to drops of blood which I knew were Christ’s. You talk about something more precious than gold. Covered in His cleansing blood through salvation in His name will cause us be found acceptable when we stand before the Judgement Seat. We will not be found wanting.

Our lack will not be overcome by applying good works, gaining worldly success, or anything else we do in our own power. I think it’s interesting that the balancing scale is higher on the side that is lacking. Belshazzar’s problem was that his heart was lifted up and his spirit hardened in pride. With the blood of Jesus applied to our lives, our lacking scale is brought down to that safe place of humility before our great King. We must bow our knee to the Gospel.

“But now in Christ Jesus

you who once were far off

have been brought near

by the blood of Christ.”

Ephesians 2:13
