No Spot or Wrinkle
God uses His plan for marriage to help us understand our union to Christ. When one of my daughters got married, a great spiritual analogy surfaced. She truly was the opposite of a “bridezilla” through the whole process. No drama. But there was one area where she put her foot down.
As she put on the dress before the wedding, she could see wrinkles under the overlay. I could barely see them even lifting the fabric. I told her it was fine, but she wanted those wrinkles gone. So we called in a steamer right before the ceremony, and made sure the wedding dress was just as it should be.
It was a couple of days later that it hit me. The only thing she would not roll with was wrinkles and rightfully so. Listen to this from Ephesians 5:25-27,
“Husbands, love your wives,
as Christ loved the church
and gave himself up for her,
that he might sanctify her,
having cleansed her
by the washing of water with the word,
so that he might present the church to himself in splendor,
without spot or wrinkle or any such thing,
that she might be holy and without blemish.”
Without spot or wrinkle! Our spiritual covering – our bridal gown, if you will – is to be perfect through Christ. By His blood and sanctification, He is preparing us for the marriage supper of the Lamb. Lord, help me to roll with things that don’t matter; help me to be passionate about preparation for that Day. Spiritually speaking, may we all call for the steamer!
Lord, thank You for the work You have done and are doing to present us to You, our Groom, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. Oh, what a Groom. Oh, what a Day!
