No Random Act
We all love random acts of kindness. What a blessing to pull up to a drive-thru and find out the car ahead of us already paid our bill. Or leaving a restaurant paying for someone else (maybe those in uniform) who have no idea they will hear that their bill is already paid. It makes me think of how Jesus went ahead of us, and paid the price for our sins on the cross. For those in Christ, we will arrive in eternity knowing the One ahead of us already paid.
Christ went before us to die on the cross to pay for our sins in love and kindness, but it was no random act. He knew who was coming behind Him.
“In this is love,
not that we have loved God
but that he loved us
and sent his Son
to be the propitiation for our sins.”
1 John 4:10
So what should our reaction be for so great a King and so great a love? Would we ignore someone paying ahead in the drive-thru and insist the establishment take our money, too? Of course not. Receive Christ’s gift with thanksgiving and praise, glorifying the One who paid. Hebrews 13:15 says,
“Through him then
let us continually offer up
a sacrifice of praise to God,
that is, the fruit of lips
that acknowledge his name.”
Let’s wake up every day thanking Him for going ahead of us and paying. Let’s praise Him with lives of obedience and tell others, so that they might receive His gift, too.
“And there is no other god besides me,
a righteous God and a Savior;
there is none besides me.”
Isaiah 45:21b
