Looking Good!

Even supermodels can battle low self esteem when they find their images needing to be air brushed on a magazine cover. Outward beauty is fleeting, and really is in the eye of the beholder. Yet there is something in us that needs to know someone finds us attractive. That desire is there to cause us to seek ultimate approval from God Himself.

I have never once looked in the mirror and thought, “Nailed it!” Yet flying out on another bad hair day, I was hit with such a precious spiritual truth. The only One who matters, saw me leaving the house in spiritual garments He had provided through the sacrifice of His Son. Covered in robes of righteousness, God looks at us and declares, “Beautiful!”  It’s the beauty of Christ, and we need to hear it.

There is none more beautiful than our God, and through Christ He has cleansed, transformed, and covered us in His perfect handiwork. We want to remember to brush our hair, because people still have to look at us. But if you know Jesus, head out remembering with great confidence and humility that your spiritual Bridegroom finds you stunning. And not because of anything we’ve done, but everything He’s done. Enjoy getting fixed up, but remember the truth of 1 Peter 3:3-4,

“Do not let your adorning be external—

the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry,

or the clothing you wear—

but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart

with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,

which in God’s sight is very precious.”

If we forget an accessory, we’ll be okay. But if we forget a gentle and quiet heart that loves and trusts God, it’s going to get ugly.
