Lessons from Jeremiah 18: A Merciful God Who Will Not Be Mocked
To be out of God’s order will never produce good fruit. Yet when we sin, He offers repentance. Jeremiah 18:7-8 says,
"If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom,
that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it,
and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil,
I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it.”
It sounds like Ezekiel 18:23,
“Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked,
declares the Lord GOD,
and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?”
How gracious! And this merciful God will not be mocked.
“And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom
that I will build and plant it,
and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice,
then I will relent of the good that I had intended to do to it.”
Jeremiah 18:9-10
Romans 2:4 warns about presuming on the kindness, forbearance, and patience of God which is meant to lead us to repentance.
Don’t presume on His mercy and kindness. It’s not meant to leave you in sin, but to rescue you out of it. He is gracious and he will not be mocked. He is to be feared, loved, admired, and adored. He is not be be toyed with. Don’t believe the lies of the world.
“Do not be deceived:
God is not mocked,
for whatever one sows,
that will he also reap.”
Galatians 6:7
So let’s rejoice in His invitation and joyfully accept!
“Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 11:29
