Lessons from Jeremiah 18: God Sends Warnings and Offers Guidance

Next in Jeremiah 18:11,

“Now, therefore, say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem:

‘Thus says the LORD,

Behold, I am shaping disaster against you

and devising a plan against you.

Return, every one from his evil way,

and amend your ways and your deeds.’”

Some churches no longer worship this God. They’ve created a god in their own imagination, like ancient Israel, who would never do this. Would God shape disaster? For His good purposes, yes. Would He devise a plan against someone? Again, yes, if this is the wise and perfect thing to do.

We’re all going to experience disaster in this fallen world. Daniel did when these things were fulfilled, but he himself was walking with the Lord. Babylon, who was opposed to God, appeared to be blessed. We have to be careful interpreting circumstances, because God alone is wise.

The two points for today are:

God sends warnings.

God prefers repentance to the evil doer succumbing to the disaster. God’s judgment is always for the good of His plan. For believers, Jesus already took on the wrath of God for us! We are all sinners in need of a Savior.

God offers guidance.

His instruction to the one caught up in evil is to turn from it and amend their ways. What rejoicing takes place in heaven when sinners are saved to now desire to walk in God’s ways! But when warnings are ignored, the judgment will fall.

“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

Hebrews 10:31

In Christ, we can trust Him, and run into His everlasting, loving arms. I am so thankful for warnings, repentance, and guidance!
