Honor God As God
“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,
in the things that have been made.
So they are without excuse.
For although they knew God,
they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him,
but they became futile in their thinking,
and their foolish hearts were darkened.”
Romans 1:20-21
Today we’ll highlight the first of these four spiritual “musts” from Romans 1:
We must honor God as God.
As believers, we know God. But our text verse says they did, too. The difference is they did not glorify, honor, or magnify Him as such. Isaiah 42:8 says,
“I am the LORD; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols.”
Of course He won’t.
His being glorified is right order and His rightful due. He alone is the source of true salvation. When we glorify God as God, others see us looking to Him as such. They can be refreshed to look, too, as they look away from false help.
2 Corinthians 1:20 says He is glorified through us, because of His promises which are “yes” and “amen” in Christ. Our embracing and believing His promises glorifies Him as God. We have the privilege and responsibility of rendering Him glorious and worthy to be magnified – not ourselves or others, not our denominations, not our political parties, not false ideology, etc. It’s so simple. In truth, glorify God as God.
“For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be glory forever.
Amen.”
Romans 11:36
Lord, we’re so thankful it’s You who is God and not another.
