Give Thanks To God

“For his invisible attributes,

namely, his eternal power and divine nature,

have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,

in the things that have been made.

So they are without excuse.

For although they knew God,

they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him,

but they became futile in their thinking,

and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

Romans 1:20-21

The second of our four spiritual “musts” is to give Him thanks. This is vital to our spiritual health and victory.

We have so much to be thankful for in who God is and what He does. We should be continually and genuinely grateful toward the One we serve. A lack of thankfulness indicates some level of deception in our thinking.

God knows how hard life can be. When our hearts are overwhelmed, thank Him that He leads us to the higher Rock. (Psalm 61:2)  When we’re crushed by our own mistakes, let’s repent and thank Him that He forgives and makes all things new. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 9:15,

“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!”

Christ's suffering and dying to free us from sin and gain our eternal life is not a thank you we want to forget.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving,

and his courts with praise!

Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the LORD is good;

his steadfast love endures forever,

and his faithfulness to all generations.”

Psalm 100:4-5

This side of eternity is the only window of time we have to praise and thank Him in the midst of grief and hardship. In eternity we will be praising free of sadness and trials! Let’s do it with fervor one day at a time. He is worthy!
