He Still Redeems Today
The book of Ruth helps us understand why Jesus is called our Redeemer. If someone lost their land in ancient Israel, their closest relative could redeem it which means buy it back! What a wonderful gift for the one who lost it.
Spiritually speaking, relatives don’t get any closer or better than our heavenly Father. When sin cost us our place in His eternal Kingdom, Jesus bought it back through the only thing that could – His blood.
“…knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things,
like silver or gold,
from your aimless conduct
received by tradition from your fathers,
but with the precious blood of Christ,
as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
1 Peter 1:18-19
Having received salvation through Christ, our Redeemer is there to redeem throughout our lives. Is there anything in your life that has been lost? A dream, a relationship, a job, an ability – whatever it is, you can ask Him to redeem it. Don’t try to imagine what that might look like, and know it may not be seen this side of eternity. He will do what is best. No one restores like He does.
Lord, use it all for Your Kingdom good and make it better than if the loss never happened. Use it to glorify Your Great Name. Show us things You want to redeem, those things we thought were lost causes. And don’t let us forget to thank You.
“Their Redeemer is strong;
The LORD of hosts is His name.”
Jeremiah 50:34a
