Growing in Likeness
When these babies hatched, they would have followed whatever was in front of them. Thankfully their parents were in front of them, and they have been learning from and following them ever since. They are being taught where to go and where not to go; what to eat and what not to eat; what to enjoy and what is dangerous. Every day they act and look more and more like their parents.
And so it is with the children of God. We are born again through Christ, to follow and learn from our King. Every day we are to watch Him and watch for Him; learn from Him and obey Him; enjoy Him in all His goodness as we walk with Him. Every step of the way, we should be looking more and more like Him.
What or who are we following? If we follow and learn from the world, it will conform us into its image. But if we follow and learn from Jesus, we will be transformed into His image by the Spirit of God. Not that we attain perfection this side of eternity – only Jesus accomplished that. But His will is that we look more and more like Him until we see Him face to face. All glory to the One who created us, leads us, enjoys us, and teaches us.
“But we all,
with unveiled face,
beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory,
just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 3:18
