Don’t Be Distracted

I don’t know what was going on the day a quacking chorus surrounded our nesting goose. God knows the hearts of these ducks. Maybe they had succumbed to a mean streak, or wanted her spot. Maybe there was a predator afoot and they were protecting her. But for our lesson today, we will let the ducks represent those things that work to distract us.

Through an onslaught of duck calls and invasion of personal space, the goose never budged. She remained steadfast in the position to which she had been called. The world is turning up the volume. Don’t let that drown out the simplicity of walking with the Lord in obedience to His treasured Word. Psalm 65:7 assures us that the Lord Himself,

“…stills the roaring of the seas,

the roaring of their waves,

the tumult of the peoples…”

Don’t allow anything to crowd out the love of Christ and His teaching. If your life has become too busy to be in God’s Word, you have allowed the ducks to take the nest. Stand firm in the faith, and don’t let the cares of this world cause you to lose your focus. God has things He wants to birth through you. Satan would love nothing more than for us to abandon the nest, so it is left for him to ransack. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:3,

“But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning,

your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”

May 2 Corinthians 1:12a be true of us,

“For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience,

that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity,

not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God…”
