God’s Love Is Enough
Allow me to set the stage for an important truth.
Jacob and Esau were twins; their father was Isaac; their grandfather was Abraham. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a meal when he was hungry.
A meal.
Later, Jacob’s mother helped him deceive his father, Isaac, into giving him Esau’s firstborn blessing. Jacob and Esau did not part on good terms.
Down the road, Jacob had twelve sons and his name would be changed to Israel. He was traveling with a large caravan when he heard he would be crossing paths with Esau. Jacob knew Esau might want to kill him. So Jacob broke the camp into two parts. If Esau attacked, half might get away. He also sent gifts ahead for appeasement.
When the brothers met, God’s grace abounded and Esau hugged his neck! Esau asked what all the gifts were about, and Jacob said they were for him. Esau shared that he had also prospered, and didn’t need it. So Jacob urged him in Genesis 33:11a saying,
“Please
accept my blessing that is brought to you,
because God has dealt graciously with me,
and because I have enough.”
That sings our song as those rescued by the blood of Christ! In love, God has dealt graciously with us, and we have enough. In that state, we are able to joyfully focus on blessing God and others, not ourselves.
If you are feeling lack or perceive a need, pray to Him about it! If we imagine that God has held out on us, or we don’t have enough, we will suck the life out of everyone around us. But knowing His love, and filled with His Spirit, we are vessels ready to overflow with love in a world that desperately needs it. God’s love is enough.
