Ever Present Help
I doubt I will be able to exhaust the spiritual analogies provided by these Canadian Geese neighbors. I became emotionally involved as I watched the whole nesting, waiting, hatching, and growing process unfold. Let’s continue to look at the protection provided by the male as an analogy of how our heavenly Father watches over us.
As we’ve said, the male had to stand away from the nest to distract predators, but he was always watching. We may not be able to see God, but we can be sure He is watching over us. Psalm 46:1 says,
“God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.”
How is He a very present help? Because He is ever present with us. He has promised to never leave us. He promises that if we cry out, He hears and He defends. When anything came near the nest, the gander would fly in and land powerfully and gracefully on the water in front of it. Such beauty and power made me think of the majesty of our God, and how He promises to be there to defend us.
And don’t fall for the lie that because God is love, He will tolerate sin, evil, or anything that harms His own. That gander was guarding his own, and I wish you could have seen the way he went at a turtle that was out to harm his babies. I wouldn’t want to be caught messing with God’s plan or His children!
“The LORD watches over the sojourners;
he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.”
Psalm 146:9
