Our Faithful Guard
Years ago a Canadian Goose couple moved into the pond next door. As the nest was built and the waiting began, they provided so many spiritual analogies. We’ll start with the one who stood guard.
Canadian Geese mate for life. When the female first sat on the nest, I became a little concerned that the male was rarely around. Then I learned he stands guard away from the nest, so he doesn’t tip off predators to its location. He never left his post, and was ready and willing to die to defend the nest.
Yesterday was Veteran’s Day here In America. Veterans were often away. They remained on guard because of their love and commitment to stand between us and harm. They had the instinct of the brave who think of others before themselves. They well represent the heart for service that comes from our Savior,
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45
The goose and those who stand guard reflect the nature of their Creator. The Son of God was willing to leave the throne room of heaven to die for, save, and protect us. He promises to watch over and defend us even today.
“But the Lord is faithful.
He will establish you and guard you
against the evil one.”
2 Thessalonians 3:3
He watches over us and defends His own. Psalm 12:7 says,
“You, O LORD, will keep them;
you will guard us from this generation forever.”
