Don’t Wait To Prepare
I remember a rare foot of snow one year that brought an important spiritual picture. When the fun ceased for many, by way of days long and widespread power outages, ours was only out for a few hours. I’m thankful, and I have a theory as to why…preparation!
Days before anyone could have predicted what was coming, we were needfully inconvenienced by slower travel as people worked to trim branches away from power lines in our area. Trees and limbs laden with heavy, wet snow would soon be falling, but the ones in our area were already on the ground.
So here’s our spiritual analogy:
First, Jesus did the preparation for our salvation by being the One cut off and rising again, so that those who believe and receive Him would gain eternal life. Second, He teaches us to live prepared for what He alone knows is ahead. What are we refusing to slow down and deal with, that God wants removed to bring Him greater glory; that His power would be seen? What might He know is going to cause problems down the road, that we are too busy or too lazy to deal with today?Hebrews 12:1b says,
“…let us also lay aside every weight,
and sin which clings so closely,
and let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us…”
This is important, because there’s more at stake than comfort on a snowy day. By walking with Him, hearing and obeying Him, He is always preparing the way and removing what needs to go while providing what needs to stay. We want to participate with Him in this!
"And it shall be said,
‘Build up, build up, prepare the way,
remove every obstruction from my people’s way.’”
Isaiah 57:14
