Only God’s Ways Bring Rescue

I can get emotional just seeing a lost pet sign. One day a woman from a pet rescue drove through my neighborhood looking for a missing dog. She told me that if people would just do what they say, they very often are able to map out and find the pet. She shared of a woman who went to pieces and wouldn’t do anything they said. It ended badly, which caused the rescue woman to also go to pieces, with frustration that the owner just wouldn’t listen.

What a spiritual analogy. We are living in the greatest rescue mission there will ever be. Spiritually speaking, there are lost sheep everywhere. God is finding them and bringing them safely home. He alone can save through Christ, yet in His grace and sovereign plan He uses believers in the mission. When we don’t do things according to His instructions, we could be harming rather than helping.

Gimmicky evangelism or self-righteousness can send lost sheep running. Romans 2:4 tells us that God’s kindness is meant to lead us to repentance. But some think they’re being kind to say God is cool with sin; or that something isn’t sin even when Scripture says it is; or that we’re all going to heaven whether we’re in Christ or not. God is as cool with that as you would be if your child ran onto a railroad track with a train coming.

Let’s enjoy time in His Word and prayer to better understand the true heart of Christ, and the only way of salvation, so we can share in the joy of lost sheep being found – placed safely in His eternal loving arms.

“For the Son of Man

came to seek and to save the lost.”
