Avoiding Traps

Have you ever walked into a spider’s web without realizing it was there? The only way to see one is if the light hits it just right. If you’re an insect, being caught in a spider’s web means death and avoiding it means life. So once again our Father’s creation provides great spiritual insight.

“For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light do we see light.”

Psalm 36:9

First, praise to the Creator who gave such skill to an arachnid! Web designs can be spectacular. Satan spins webs to trap spiritually, in a spectacularly deceptive way. Often, by the time we realize we’ve walked into one, we’re pretty covered up in the mess of it. That is the time for repentance and cleansing from the Lord.

“Rejoice not over me, O my enemy;

when I fall, I shall rise;

when I sit in darkness,

the LORD will be a light to me.”

Micah 7:8

The end of that verse shows us a better way that benefits us and everyone around us. We can humble ourselves to be watchful and to trust in His light, avoiding the trap altogether.

“But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,

for anything that becomes visible is light.”
Ephesians 5:13-14b

Where the light of truth shines, traps are revealed to anyone paying attention. In our own wisdom we can’t avoid spiritual snares, because we don’t see them. But in the light (truth) of Christ, we gain His wisdom to avoid them. It’s one of the many reasons I love to study His Word. We need You, Lord!  Thank You for Your light, love, and grace.
