Wrestle!
Imagine two people stepping onto a mat to wrestle. One doesn’t move while the other one wrestles. We wouldn’t have to review stats to know who will win. The one not wrestling could cry, “Why am I losing? Why is this happening?” The answer is obvious. They didn’t wrestle.
Ephesians 6:12 doesn’t say we don’t wrestle. It says,
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the cosmic powers over this present darkness,
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
Effective wrestling techniques include terms like “full nelson.” Effective spiritual wrestling techniques include terms like obedience, thankfulness, humility, prayer, praise, and building others up. Wrestle victoriously by drawing near to God, so that we walk in the Spirit producing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Those are powerful weapons to drive out darkness. Let’s dig into God’s Word to build up our faith and ground us in truth.
In Christ, through every life trial, we should be the ones left standing in victory with the enemy under our feet. So let’s wrestle, stand firm, and not give the enemy an inch. As believers in Christ, we no longer live or wrestle for ourselves. Ours takes a high calling to a whole new level. We have a responsibility to not just sit there. We wrestle for our good and the good of others, for the glory of God and His Kingdom. We do it in His strength. The victory belongs to Him.
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all,
to stand firm.”
Ephesians 6:13
