What’s In Your Garden?
The crows had been setting up camp in my little courtyard. I talked to a neighbor whose vegetable garden was destroyed by them. They pecked at the bottom of the tomatoes, and then pulled and tore up the very plants! After we talked, I looked out the back and there they were in large number: on the bird bath; on the bird feeder; here, there, and everywhere. I watched until one of them decided to start pulling at my flowers, so I headed out to drive them away.
This is what caught my eye. The minute the flock of crows flew out, a precious little sparrow flew in and landed on the bird bath. A few seconds later a hummingbird came in. Crows can be mean, even to each other, and they can be destructive. When the crows were in the courtyard, it was a place of lack of concern for others, no tender care, chaos, destruction, bullying, and backbiting (literally). But when they left, the garden went from looking like a scene from a horror movie, to a place of joy, peace, beauty, and right purpose.
Our God drives out darkness and those things that harm in order to give us joy, peace, and righteousness. There is none like Him.
Lord, don’t let me be a crow in someone else’s life. Drive out any sin or darkness that I’ve allowed to hang around, so that my true purpose in Christ abounds to be a garden where others can be refreshed.
“And the LORD will guide you continually
and satisfy your desire in scorched places
and make your bones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water,
whose waters do not fail..”
Isaiah 58:11
