Turn And Look

God created all that is including us. He reveals Himself through His Word and Holy Spirit. He makes it clear that He desires relationship with us through Christ. So, it’s actually odd when we don’t include Him in all of our thoughts and every step of our day. Exodus 3 provides a picture for us. Moses was leading the flock to the back of the desert and saw a bush burning, but not burning up. Exodus 3:3-4 says,

“And Moses said, ‘I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.’

When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see,

God called to him out of the bush,

‘Moses, Moses!’

And he said, ‘Here I am.’”

When did the Lord speak to Moses? When He saw that Moses had turned.

Scripture is filled with instruction to pay attention. There are those times, like the burning bush, where we can’t missed it. But I want to see Him in everything. So I’m asking God to help me be watchful to notice Him and seek Him continually. Turning gives us a picture of humility, seeking, and repentance. We’re valuing Him as worth turning toward.

I don’t want to miss hearing from God, because it’s not on my agenda. I don’t want to miss the works of His Hands, because I’m not paying attention. Zechariah 7:11 is a great wake up call,

“But they refused to pay attention

and turned a stubborn shoulder

and stopped their ears

that they might not hear.”

But when we do humbly notice and turn toward Him, He is gracious to allow us to experience the wonder we find in relationship with Him through Christ. Lord, thank You for such a wonder.
