True Living

The people were operating in their own ways. God was offering them His, where true life is found. Let’s continue listening to His instruction in Isaiah 1:17,

“…learn to do good;

seek justice,

correct oppression;

bring justice to the fatherless,

plead the widow’s cause.”

Can you imagine if everyone lived like that? The people had been putting their time and effort toward living however they pleased. It was not pleasing to God, and it was not bringing Him glory. The people had abandoned, despised, and turned away from the Lord, while still going through the motions of worship. Instead they should have been learning, seeking, correcting, and looking out for the needs of others.

Learn to do good. Jesus told us that only God is good. We must learn what is good and what is evil from Him through His Word.  And then do it.

Seek justice. A society that ignores justice is a society heading for the cliff. Yet individually, as we seek justice before God, we find that we are guilty sinners and the justice we deserve is eternal death. Only the cleansing blood of Christ and His sacrifice pay the penalty to make us just before God. Seeking justice should land us kneeling at the foot of the cross.

Correct oppression. We are not to leave people heading in the wrong direction. Those living crooked, must be offered the straight path; God’s way. Love proclaims truth!

The next two are precious to the heart of our Father. Bring justice and plead for our own rights? No. For the fatherless and the widow.

Oh, how we love You, Lord. You are so good, and we are lost without You. May Your fruit abound from our lives, rather than the futility of living however we feel.
