The Important Choice
One thing people from other countries notice about America is the abundance of choice, especially in grocery stores. But there are choices we all have to make that are a whole lot more serious than what kind of cereal we should buy. Just think of all the worldviews out there! And many will find themselves on the wrong side of history.
When Israel was settling into the Promised Land, Joshua said,
“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD,
choose this day whom you will serve,
whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River,
or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.
But as for me and my house,
we will serve the LORD.”
Joshua 24:15
That call to choose continues to ring forth. His paths drip with abundance, and obedience is met with blessing. Opposition to Him, is to oppose what is good; to oppose a message of compassion and eternal significance. In the name of evolving, many are choosing darkness. They are following their own heart, rather than the wisdom of God’s Word.
I found a sobering verse in Psalm 66 that speaks to the glory of the one true King, and encouragement to remain in His ways. There’s a “Selah” which gives us opportunity to pause. Psalm 66:7 (NKJV) says,
“He rules by His power forever;
His eyes observe the nations;
Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves.
Selah.”
Let that sink in. To choose to serve anything other than the one true God is to set oneself up for a tragic fall, even if others around you exalt you for your beliefs. God loves us and desires all to come to repentance through Christ. Choose life!
