The Beauty Of Reflection
I was noticing some colorful things reflected off of my desk top. I thanked God for His grace in creating the ability of one thing to reflect another. It made me think of how we want to reflect His beauty. Lord, teach us.
A lake in Montana does not reflect the trees In New Hampshire. Things are reflected when they’re close by. To the degree we hold fast to the Lord and enjoy His presence, opportunity arises for others to glimpse Him in our lives.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
James 4:8a
Then. the clearest reflection happens in stillness. Behaving rashly, trusting in our own wisdom, and refusing to bow the knee are a few ways to allow turbulence that will make the reflection hard to see. Psalm 46:10 says,
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
When we cease striving, the ripples wane and the stillness comes. We want the reflection to be clear, and we don’t want people to linger at the reflection, but to take spiritual eyes fully to the actual – God Himself. God’s plan from the beginning was to spread His glory through mankind. Sin marred that ability, but Christ redeemed it. What a wonder and purposeful life that He allows us to participate in His glory being seen on this earth.
Lord, as we draw near and get still, refine us to be reflections of your glory – who You truly are – so others may know and exalt You, too.
