Secure In The Love Of God: A Lesson at the Wailing Wall
I went to Israel years ago and had a sweet lesson at the Wailing Wall. It was like a dream to actually be in Israel and at this spot. I know God is Spirit and hears us wherever we are, but it was so special to me to be there speaking to Him. I put my written prayer in the wall. It was so surreal, and the moment so special, that I found myself striving in prayer instead of enjoying time with the Lord. I was so worked up about how I thought it should be, or how I might feel. Who struggles to pray at the Wailing Wall? I can make something so easy, so difficult.
And then came the lesson.
An adorable little girl ran up next to me, kissed the wall, and was gone. What a precious picture she gave! It spoke volumes about resting in the love of God and enjoying Him. He is not looking for rituals or many words. He is looking for humble hearts. He is looking to be loved and obeyed by His children who believe how much He loves us.
It speaks well of Him when His children live securely in His love.
I think that moment made me better understand Jesus’ teaching when He said in Matthew 18:4,
“Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
No one teaches like our God. Believing Him puts a skip in our step, and clothes us with humility. When I was striving, He had the patience to still be speaking. There is no doubt in my mind that our Father is for us.
