Propelling or Dragging?

Watching football provides plenty of spiritual analogies. This week a player was about to lose his balance, and a teammate helped him keep it to zoom on down the field. Other times one player bulldozes behind another to push him forward. Everyone doing his part.

As members of the body of Christ, we need to propel our brothers and sisters rather than dragging them down. We are all called in Philippians 3:14 to,

“…press on toward the goal

for the prize of the upward call of God

in Christ Jesus.”

And we can’t do it alone. We are designed to function as a many membered body.

There are at least two ways we can Kingdom build. One is to share the Gospel, so that living stones are added through salvation. The other is to participate in strengthening the stones that are already there. We want the enemy of our souls to be thrown off and dragged down, not our fellow believers.

I cringe at how quickly we could help the enemy by dragging people down, instead of spurring them on. I’m so thankful for repentance, and for those who encourage me in Kingdom building and moving forward. All glory goes to our King, because victory always belongs to Him.

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit,

but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Let each of you look not only to his own interests,

but also to the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:3-4

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,

not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some,

but encouraging one another,

and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Hebrews 10:24-25
