Memorial Day 2025
Today we honor those who died, so that we can live free. There aren’t words for that kind of sacrifice. I appreciate the following quote as we enjoy the riches of their ultimate sacrifice.
“It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.”
~ Charles M Province
We know from James 1:17 that every good gift is from the Lord. Memorial Day honors the fallen and always provides a precious spiritual analogy, because Jesus gave His life so we can have freedom from sin.
“For you were called to freedom, brothers.
Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh,
but through love serve one another.”
Galatians 5:13
We honor the fallen by enjoying and guarding the freedom they purchased with their lives. Lord, help us to be like those we honor today – willing to live and die for You who died to set us free.
