Lessons from Jeremiah 18: Listen Up!

Who we listen to matters. Jeremiah 18:1 says,

“The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD…”

The word that came to Jeremiah was from whom? The LORD.

There can be a lot of voices coming at us, but we want to listen to the voice of the Lord. John 10:4-5 speaks of Jesus as our Shepherd,

“When he has brought out all his own,

he goes before them,

and the sheep follow him,

for they know his voice.

A stranger they will not follow,

but they will flee from him,

for they do not know the voice of strangers.’”

May we flee from any voice – no matter what the lure or temptation may be – that is not coming from the Lord! Revelation 13:11 says,

“Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth.

It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon.”

What a privilege to be His and know His voice. Though this beast looks like and seems to have the power of the Lamb, God’s children will discern it to be the voice of a dragon. Knowing the voice of our Shepherd provides us safety, guidance, and protection. We know what He sounds like by studying His Word.

The world has turned the volume up. Satan hopes we will not seek the only voice that matters. Let’s lean on the One who can give us the silence we need to fully hear Him. There is none like Him. The One…

“…who stills the roaring of the seas,

the roaring of their waves,

the tumult of the peoples…”,

Psalm 65:7

We’ll continue to learn from Jeremiah 18 about hearing the voice of the Lord. Father, please give us a hunger for and excitement about Your Word!
