Keep The Light Of Truth In Your Heart

“For his invisible attributes,

namely, his eternal power and divine nature,

have been clearly perceived,

ever since the creation of the world,

in the things that have been made.

So they are without excuse.

For although they knew God,

they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him,

but they became futile in their thinking,

and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

Romans 1:20-21

Our fourth spiritual “must” from Romans 1 is: We must keep the light of truth in our hearts.

This is true light that only comes from God Himself. It’s why we need to spend time in His Word and know it well. In darkness we can’t see which way to go or what’s in our way. We can’t see things as they truly are. There is a flood of deception right now pouring into hearts with darkness that has them claiming enlightenment, but it’s apart from the wisdom of God. It does not line up with Scripture.

But truth from God’s Word shields us from the deathly darts of deception. Don’t drift into the foolishness of worldly wisdom. God’s Word works to keep our hearts anchored in safety and full of the light of truth.

Jeremiah 17:9 reminds us that the heart is full of wickedness and deceit. Bleeding hearts are everywhere, hindering true kindness. Unless we walk with Christ, our hearts will wander toward darkness even as the world applauds it as light. The next verse following our Romans text says, “Professing to be wise, they became fools.”

Psalm 15:12 tells us who may dwell in God’s holy hill – He who speaks truth in his heart. Hold tight to His matchless wisdom that truly enlightens hearts and leads them safely home.
