Kayaking V: Keep Paddling

After hearing that I should remain pointed straight for shore, not worrying about what was behind me, I got my next instruction for getting safely to shore. No matter what happens, just keep paddling. Even if it feels like it’s not accomplishing anything; don’t stop.

The Lord has given us instruction on how to live. The beauty is, He is the One accomplishing it through us. There are those times when things in this world work to distract us from our true mission, or it feels like the things He’s told us to do aren’t really making a difference. In times like these we have got to keep paddling; keep moving forward in Christ! Seek Him, enjoy Him, spend time in His Word and prayer, hear and obey Him. This isn’t works based religion. This is applying wisdom, even in times when it doesn’t feel like it’s making a difference in our lives. He is working to keep us safely pointed home. We want to be sure we are participating.

In kayaking if a wave is behind you, paddling may not feel like it’s making much headway, but it is doing a mighty work to keep you from being sucked back into the wave. So no matter what is going on around you or how you feel – keep paddling! The Lord is working mightily within us, and we will be so glad that we pressed on. Walking with Him is never futile.

“Not that I have already obtained this

or am already perfect,

but I press on to make it my own,

because Christ Jesus has made me his own..”

Philippians 3:12
