Kayaking II: Are You Ready To Be Coached?
The day before I tried to kayak in the Gulf my niece, who kayaks all the time, flipped in the breakers and the kayak hit her in the back and knocked the wind out of her. She was fine, but I love today’s reminder. After we enjoyed cruising up and down the shoreline, my brother said, “Are you ready to be coached on how to bring it in?” The answer was obviously yes! The last thing I wanted was to be tumbling in a wave wrestling a kayak and a paddle bigger than I was.
Later it hit me. Am I that clear on how important God’s instructions are? They keep us safe and give us victory. Proverbs 1:20 says,
“Wisdom cries aloud in the street,
in the markets she raises her voice…”
God is asking us if we want to be coached, because He loves us and cares about our welfare. He knows it will not go well for us if we try to bring this life home without His guidance. The more we grow in our understanding of the value of God’s commands, the more hungry we are for His Word and desperate to be walking in obedience.
Proverbs 1 goes on to talk about those who reject God’s wisdom. Yet I love how it closes in Verse 33,
“…but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
and will be at ease,
without dread of disaster.”
Are we ready to be coached? Lord, wake us up to understand the value of Your every instruction!
