If They Only Knew: The Desire Of All Nations
Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17-18,
“…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation
in the knowledge of him,
having the eyes of your hearts enlightened,
that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you,
what are the riches of his glorious inheritance
in the saints…”
Why would God want us to have spiritual eyes to see and understand the hope of His calling? Because He has called us to salvation in Christ, to live filled with the Holy Spirit, to love Him with all of our heart, to love others as ourselves, to worship Him, to abide in Him, to bear the fruit of Him, to glorify Him, so that we may spread the message of salvation in Christ through our obedient living. Do we understand the hope in that? There is a dying world desperate for it.
In Haggai 2:7 the Lord is called the treasures or desire of all nations.
If the nations only knew.
Christians are to live and speak in truth and genuine love, so that the world might see our only and beloved Hope. There is pressure from culture to blend and tolerate all beliefs. As we continue to witness the watering down of convictions, I think a false sense of peace falls on those who bow the knee to that. Christians are the cog in the wheel of the world system, because we can’t water down what we’ve come to know: Jesus is the only way to God, and provides the only escape from His wrath. Lord, help us to bow the knee to none other than the only Hope for the world. Give us clarity in our conviction and message.
