Getty Up part VI: Spiritual Laziness Hinders Finishing

“Whoever is slothful will not roast his game,

but the diligent man will get precious wealth.”
Proverbs 12:27

Imagine making the effort to hunt for food, but not getting around to cooking it. Spiritual laziness brings risk of not finishing. When we cease to be diligent in enjoying our walk with the Lord, we are prone to fizzle out.

Here’s another visual from Proverbs 26:15,

“The sluggard buries his hand in the dish;

it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth.”

We can walk around with our Bible’s strapped to us, but if we never bother to open them, asking the Lord to teach us, actually living what we learn, we are like this lazy man. He can’t even bring himself to lift his hand to his mouth once he’s bothered to put his hand in the dish. For goodness’ sake, finish it man!

We may come hard out of the gate, but it’s walking with the Lord and finishing in His strength that matters. Galatians 6:9 says,

“And let us not grow weary of doing good,

for in due season we will reap,

if we do not give up.”

If we try to serve the Lord in our own strength, we will grow weary and wander from true purpose. In Luke 18:1, Jesus said men ought always to pray and not lose heart. Remaining in communion with God until we see Him face to face, and obeying what we hear, makes all the difference in our ability to continue in our assignments. Matthew 24:13 says,

“But the one who endures to the end

will be saved.”

It’s not our enduring until the end that saves us. It’s a mark of those truly saved. God Himself brings the strong finish!
