Free To Be Full

I was stuffing an envelope, and the letter wouldn’t go all the way in. The envelope was stuck together near the bottom. After easing it open, I filled it with no problem. It provided a great spiritual analogy.

What am I clinging to or allowing to take space in my life that actually prevents the fullness of God’s spiritual blessings from wholly pouring in? Whether it’s religion, busy-ness, bitterness, desiring the approval of people, self-centeredness, disobedience, laziness, anxiety, (and the list goes on), these things rob us of the fullness of all God provides.

Throughout Scripture we read of people being filled with wickedness, murder, strife, deceit, confusion, indignation, envy, and other various things from the enemy. Those things were never meant to be in us. They wear away at us like a disease, while hindering the presence of things that belong. Scripture reveals that God wants us redeemed and filled with His Holy Spirit, so we bear His fruit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. He wants us filled with all knowledge, comfort, faith, mercy, good works, etc.

Lord, help us to release and unstick those things in our lives that would rob us of all You provide to satisfy. Cause us to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that we may be filled with the fullness of You. (See Ephesians 3:19.)

What a breathtaking God. Only He can satisfy us. Lord, help us to hear and obey, that You, our great Shepherd, might be seen in our lives as You truly are – the great and generous, merciful and mighty sustainer and protector of the sheep.

“You open your hand;

you satisfy the desire of every living thing.”

Psalm 145:16
