Follow Quickly

“Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee,

he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon

casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.

And Jesus said to them,

‘Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.’

And immediately they left their nets and followed him.”

Mark 1:16-18

We want to be quick to follow Jesus! Right after this moment, in Mark 1:24-25, Jesus set out to rescue a man with an unclean spirit. The spirit was opposed to even being near Jesus. Jesus told it to be silent and come out. Unlike Simon and Andrew, it obeyed because it had to, not by choice. The very demons who deceive humans into being nonchalant about the authority of Christ, know well that His authority is above all. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 lets us know that Satan blinds the minds of unbelievers to keep them from seeing the gospel of the glory of Christ.

Philippians 2:9-10 says,

“Therefore God has highly exalted him

and bestowed on him

the name that is above every name,

so that at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth…”

If you have not yet trusted Christ for your salvation, please ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Just as He set this man free from the unclean spirit, He is ready to set the captives free today by revealing that He is the way, the truth, and the life.  

Every knee will bow, but it is only those knees that bow to the glorious gift of the Gospel this side of eternity that will be saved. Lord, cause many to drop everything and follow You quickly!
